Robin Khatri gave his second man-of-the-match performance as Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) stretched their winning run to three games following a 78-58 victory over Kirtipur Basketball Team in the Nepal Basketball League on Wednesday.
In their home court at the Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali, Khatri began from where he had left in their 29-point performance away to Nepal Police Club on Monday and sunk 26 points in a comfortable victory over visitors Kirtipur. Khatri also had four rebounds and as many assists.
Army currently lead the table with six points from first three matches including a crucial 104-69 victory over defending champions Golden Gate International Club in the tournament opener on April 27. The night match between title contenders Times International Club and Golden Gate had to be postponed due to lightning and thunderstorm.
Golden Gate are heading towards a seemingly second defeat in the league trailing 37-54 against national team skipper Sadhish Pradhan-led Times with 4:11 minutes gone in the third quarter. The match will resume from the same stage on Sunday. Golden Gate have bolstered their squad with the addition of former Indian international Yogesh Kanderia.
In Bhadrakali, Army set the tone for the game with a 22-15 lead in the first quarter and took a 24-18 lead in the second period to go into the second half with a 13-point cushion. With another six-point lead (19-13) in the third quarter for Army, Kirtipur struggled to fight back in the game. Army also led the final quarter 13-12.
In the only match on Thursday, South Siders Basketball Club will host Kirtipur in their home game at the St Xavier’s College in Maitighar.
