The authorities concerned have not yet relocated landslide-prone Yakte settlement to a safer location.
As many as 24 households of Yakte settlement in ward 8 of Dhankuta Municipality are at high risk of landslides after the land surrounding the settlement developed cracks during the monsoon season three years ago.
“A team of technicians including geologists had recommended shifting the settlement to a safer location immediately. However, the authorities have yet to find land to relocate the settlement,” said Rasa Bahadur Rai, the ward chairman.
According to Upendra Khanal, chief at the municipality’s environment and disaster management unit, efforts are on to shift the settlement to a safer location within a year.
“The municipality will soon find a suitable area to relocate the settlement. A total of Rs 16.8 million is required for the relocation,” said Khanal.
